Smyre-Phoenix Award Rep. Smyre honored with CBCF Phoenix Award State

Rep. Calvin Smyre (GA) was honored with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Phoenix Award. Rep. Calvin Smyre (D-Columbus), President of the National Black Caucus of State Legislators and Chairman of the Georgia House Democratic Caucus, was among the recipients of the prestigious Phoenix Award, presented by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation on Sept. 26 in Washington, D.C.

 

Other recipients included U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice, Danny Glover, Cicely Tyson, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Wyclef Jean.

 

The Phoenix Award recognizes efforts and accomplishments of those that have made significant contributions to society. The award symbolizes the immortality of the human spirit and an eternal desire to reach its full potential. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama attended the dinner and addressed the large audience.
